Judson ISD officials discussed proposed budget cuts with community members in a town hall Thursday evening. This is the second meeting held to find solutions to chip away at a nearly $50 million deficit. After hours of back-and-forth conversation at Thursday night's meeting, there wont be an easy fix. District trustees wrote out a list, showing what meeting attendees want to see stay, or go. One item on that list has been on the minds of districts across Texas: school closures. view article  arw

Some Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill ISD students are injured after a vehicle wrecked into a CiCi’s Pizza restaurant. According to a Facebook post from Chapel Hill ISD at 12:10 p.m., some sixth-grade students who were inside the restaurant on a field trip were injured. According to Mount Pleasant Police Chief Mark Buhman, a total of 10 people were taken to the hospital, and one is in critical condition. view article  arw

Injuries were reported after a vehicle struck a CiCi's location in Mount Pleasant with students inside. Chapel Hill ISD (Titus County) students were present for a 6th grade field trip, and some were injured due to the crash. The district has notified all parents who were impacted and is working with emergency personnel to account for all the students. view article  arw

Aldine ISD Students Recognized by Mexican Consulate

On Monday, April 7, the Mexican Consulate in Houston recognized five Aldine ISD students from Aldine High School for their hard work in civic academics and engagement. The Mexican Consulate partnered with AISD in their Aldine Votes initiative to recognize student efforts. Texas law prohibits public school districts, including Houston ISD, from directly advocating for school bond measures — but they can inform voters about what’s in the proposal. The Texas Election Code bars public employees, including teachers, principals and school board members, from spending public funds to advocate for or against any candidate or measure on the ballot, including a bond. They also cannot spend funds on any communication that is “reasonably likely" to influence a voter to vote for or against a measure. view article  arw

Aransas Pass: APISD superintendent leaving for Cleveland ISD

The current superintendent of Aransas Pass will soon be leaving the district to take the same position at another district in the Houston area. On April 7, Cleveland ISD announced that it has named current APISD superintendent Glenn Barnes as the lone finalist for its open superintendent position. There is a 21-day waiting period required until Barnes is officially named to the position, during which Barnes will help APISD prepare for the transition. view article  arw

Scott Martindale has held the position for the past four years, and will now move to be the Superintendent of Hudson ISD. The lives of some Socorro and Canutillo independent school district employees were upended late last week as they received a piece of paper informing them that their contracts would not be renewed after the end of the school year. Some of those employees who have been laid off include middle and elementary school music teachers from Socorro ISD and registered nurses from Canutillo ISD. Several SISD employees who received the notices Friday declined to comment at this time, saying they were going to first consult with their teacher unions. view article  arw

Hinojosa said she would step down effective June 30, and the board voted 6-0 to draw up a voluntary retirement agreement with the leader. Alvin ISD's board of trustees approved a nearly $200,000 contract to demolish the former Walt Disney Elementary site at its April 8 meeting. The decision to demolish the campus, located at 5000 Mustang Road, Alvin, comes a few months after an EF-2 tornado damaged the school in late December, prompting officials to move students to an alternative campus, Community Impact previously reported. view article  arw

Nearly 40 teachers will not return to the South San Independent School District in the fall of 2025. The instructors fall into two categories: 16 who were “underperforming,” according to superintendent Dr. Saul Hinojosa, and another 22 teachers who were not certified.
